3D Print Project: Print Your Own Printing Press

3D Printing

3D printing has been present in the art world in many forms. It allows for the reproduction of art in physical 3D forms, recreating pre-existing designs made by users themselves. A recent project, however, Open Press Project, is taking it to the next level by printing an art reproduction device (printing press). In other words, this project includes printing a printing press using a 3D printer.

The reason for this project is primarily to reduce overall costs. The original technology of the printing press is incredibly expensive. Martin Schneider, head of the Open Press Project, “sought to remedy these drawbacks.” As of today, it’s been a huge success, with thousands of people worldwide downloading his designs.

The 3D printed printing press is light and cheap to make. Users can employ it towards the reproduction of their own designs. Schneider has made everything open-source - meaning that as long as people are not using for commercial purposes, they are allowed to edit, copy and duplicate as much as they like.
