3D Printing Technology: The New Era for Food Customization - From Pixels to Plates

3D Printing

3D Printing is a method of manufacturing materials such as plastic or metal. These materials are deposited on top of one another in layers to produce the three-dimensional effect. 3D Printing is a growing technology that is continuing to expand into different fields. Food customization has been a recent area where 3D Printing has been able to play an important part in. 3D Printing enables people to produce materials with any desired shape, dimension, and structural properties. Introducing the concept of personalized nutrition, there is now the possibility of customized food formulas that could be optimized to prevent diseases or reduce susceptibility to diseases.

This research focuses primarily on how 3D printing is making a change in allowing for detailed food customization and how this process is expected to personalize food formulas by being able to customize its’ shape, dimension, and structure on a micro-level.
