David Frohlich, Professor of the University of Surrey's Digital World Research Centre, is the head of a research team that just secured a grant to work on interactive printed material. The £1.2m grant will help them develop paper with hyperlinks to the web, in a "Harry Potter-style portrait". The interactivity will be above that of augmented reality or QR codes, and aims for full document recognition. They are trying option for the paper to connect to external devices like screens or speakers.
