3D Printing is a Cost Effect Home Investment

3D Printing

Michigan Tech researchers conducted a study recently titled "Emergence of Home Manufacturing in the Developed World: Return on Investment for Open-Source 3D Printers" which explores the value of a 3D printer in home use. What was found was that the printer can pay for itself in just 5 years, and by expanding the different kinds of items printed, you can make up to 1000% ROI. The average savings on each item tested was over 90% of their retail cost, but that's not the main takeaway. The point is how easy it now is for customers to 3D print at home, since a child can set it up. What this means is that the need for shops that do 3D output only will decline, while designing things to be 3D printed will remain in demand.
