Email Clutter: 44% Say More Than Half of Their Emails Come From Marketers
November 5, 2012 -- A survey of nearly 1,100 U.S. adults finds 44% say that more than half of the new emails they received the week prior came from marketers. For the majority of respondents these email are landing in their primary email account along with their personal emails.

According to email management company Blue Kangaroo's study regarding consumer attitudes toward marketing emails:

40% enjoy getting emails weekly from their favorite brands,

24% dislike all the marketing clutter they receive,

22% don't have strong feelings about marketing emails

9% report using a secondary email account to manage marketing messages,

6% don't receive many marketing emails.

Half of respondents (53%) are fine with the amount of marketing emails received; 44% report receiving some or much more than they would like.

When it comes to day-to-day management of opt-in marketing emails, half say it is "somewhat worth the effort, but its a time consuming chore." Another 20% report it "usually being a hassle and a waste of time," or they are "drowning in the flood of marketing emails that is out of control."
